Gray Smoke

Wash me clean from this life
Be I forever or no more
I do walk alone
A shadow, thin as grey smoke
I drift waywardly into the murky night
So fast and faint, a dream fading
Consciousness adrift from the knowing mind
I walk alone
Wash me clean so that I might sleep
Peacefully forever more.

Waiting

I’ve seen him before. 
Waiting for what I do not know.
Alone He sits, politely nodding to the passersby, checking his watch patiently. 
He wears an old black suit with a beaming white shirt,
atop his bald head a fading black derby sits.
He’s alone this nondescript man, waiting. 
On his narrow lap a tattered book rest, he’s waiting.
I’ve seen him before, the black man with the tattered book.
Waiting for what I do not know.

The Light

The unmistakable yearning,
The sicken pinch,
The awful emptiness of reality setting in,
unable to go back, life moves on like a locomotive without brakes. 
Heading for eternity we can never go back, what’s done is done.
Memories fading like paint on a canvas, clinging to what was left of a fragile existence.
Unable to hold on we slip into eternity, ignorant and afraid of the unknown.
We pass through the darkness and return home into the light.

Do you really want to live forever?

There She Goes

There she goes along the sun baked road,head back oblivious in her own world.

The dull sun shining down on her brown hair, it’s fall when she appears, always fall.

There she goes oversized sweater and silly round hat, black frames, and crooked smile.

There she goes down our city street whimsical and free.  Slowing  traffic, she’s unaware, head back bathing in the seasons breeze.

There she goes, there she goes again, my life from a distance just beyond my reach teasing, capturing my soul, it’s fall and there she goes.
